I have always heard you must eat to lose weight and I believed it but only to a degree. After last month I am now a real believer.

As I shared in my last post I set 10 pound weight loss goals to upcoming events in my personal life. Well in May and June I lost 6 pounds each month. So I was determined to lose 10 pounds in July especially since I was going to have a new set of after pictures taken professionally in August. So I decided I was only going to eat 1500 calories daily. I was very good and kept that goal for the entire month of July BUT my total weight lose for July was only 2 pounds. I was so disappointed it was the lowest weight loss since I began my journey.

I was totally in disbelief. How could I only lose 2 pounds eating only 1500 calories a day??? So I did some research at the first of August. A person my height, weight and age should eat 2450 calories to maintain their weight and 1850 to lose weight. So what I was doing by eating so few calories was putting my body in starvation mode and my body was holding on to weight for survival.

Three days a go I started eating more and I have already lost 3 pounds. HooRay, more than I lost the entire month of July.

I wanted to share this personal experience so anyone thinking eating very little is the way to lose weight is mistaken. I learned the hard way. Now I am a believer you must eat to lose weight and stay healthy.

I would take Wind Chill of 10 below zero and a foot of snow any day over a Heat Index of 110. This heat is kicking my butt.

Being overweight makes it even harder to make it through this extreme heat we are having in the Midwest. I was thinking this morning how hard it has been on me the last week. If I still had on the 78 pounds I have lost, I honestly don't know how I would make it.

I still have 80 pounds to lose which is a lot. However, I encourage anyone that has a lot of weight to lose to not focus on your total weight loss goal but focus on 10 pounds at a time. It is amazing how much better you start to feel as soon as you have dropped 10 pounds and then it even gets better as 10 pounds increases to 20 pounds of weight loss and even better as you continue on your weight loss journey.

I used the excuse for years, I have to much weight to lose to even try and it will take way to long to lose it all. Well then as I get older it amazes me at how fast time passes. It seems like we just get through the Holiday season and it is time for Christmas again. Then I started to think if I don't do something I will be overweight as each Holiday season rolls around. Yea maybe I won't lose it all from one Christmas season to the next but I can make a huge improvement.

Plus the other thing I realized is time is not going to stand still so I used it to my advantage and set a new 10 pound weight loss goal according to different personal events throughout the calender year. There are a lot of special events which occur throughout the year so it makes it easy to work toward my goals.

Recently I have had more than one person say to me ... how do you stay on a diet? My answer is ... diet what diet? I NEVER NEVER NEVER let it enter my mind I am on a diet. I sincerely don't feel like I am. I am only making wiser and healthier choices.

I found after a few months into my weight loss journey if I ever had the urge to over eat it was not because I was hungry. But because I would allow my brain to think about snacking on something high in calories or one of my favorite comfort foods.

I bet I am no different than most people. If you are honest with your self and will really think about it, you would admit, many times you eat out of habit more than because you are hungry.

It doesn't happen a lot anymore but if I do ever let those thoughts creep into my mind. I take a deep breathe and search deep into my soul (stomach) :) I always find the same answer. I am really not hungry it is all in my mind.
